Bassetlaw Museum

Bassetlaw Museum is situated in Retford town centre in Amcott House, an 18th century town house which retains many of its original features.

An art gallery was built in 1994, its collections include local history, archaeology, decorative and fine art, agriculture, costume and textiles. A more recent addition has been the Rural Heritage Centre. Agriculture and rural crafts have been crucial to Bassetlaw since prehistoric times. Agricultural tool and chair making, basketry and blacksmithing, milling and malting have all taken their place alongside farming and there are examples of farming implements that would have been used in the early 17th century when the Mayflower Pilgrims lived in this area.
